Royal Decree 1007/2023 · Mandatory from July 2025

Verifactu for attorneys: automatic compliance

Lexiel generates invoices with chained SHA-256 hash and AEAT-verifiable QR code. No additional setup. Included in all plans.

What is Verifactu and why does it affect your practice?

The legal obligation

Royal Decree 1007/2023 requires all invoicing software systems to generate immutable records for each invoice via SHA-256 hash chains. Each invoice must be linked to the previous one, making retroactive modification detectable.

Who must comply

Any professional or business issuing invoices using software: attorneys, court clerks, administrative firms, multidisciplinary practices. Sole traders invoicing manually (without software) are temporarily exempt, but the AEAT plans to extend the scope.

How Lexiel handles it automatically

No configuration. No extra plugins. No extra cost.

Invoice generated

You create the invoice in Lexiel with client data, logged hours and items. VAT, IGIC or IPSI per territory. Personal income tax withholding per your legal form.

Automatic SHA-256 hash

Lexiel calculates the SHA-256 hash of the invoice and chains it with the previous invoice hash, creating an immutable and unalterable integrity record.

AEAT-verifiable QR

Each invoice includes a QR code linking to the Tax Agency verification portal. The recipient can confirm authenticity in seconds.

Frequently asked questions about Verifactu

When is Verifactu mandatory?

For businesses and self-employed with invoicing software: from July 1, 2025 (large companies) and January 1, 2026 (all others). Penalties for non-compliance range from €1,000 to system shutdown.

Does Verifactu apply to lawyers?

Yes. Every attorney or law firm issuing invoices through software must comply with Royal Decree 1007/2023. This includes practice management systems that generate invoices.

Do I need to do anything in Lexiel to enable it?

No. Verifactu is enabled by default on all plans from day one. Every invoice you generate automatically includes the SHA-256 hash chain and QR verification code.

Can I verify my invoices on the AEAT portal?

Yes. The QR code on each invoice links directly to the Tax Agency verification portal, where any recipient can confirm the invoice authenticity.
