Legal framework
Legal aid in Spain is guaranteed by Art. 24.2 CE and governed by Law 1/1996. Threshold: five times the IPREM (≈€3,000/month in 2025). Automatic beneficiaries (no income test): domestic violence victims, trafficking victims, unaccompanied minors, asylum seekers.
Service types: Detained person assistance (Art. 520 LECRIM: 24h, immediate); full case defence (all proceedings); pre-litigation advice (domestic violence victims).
Remuneration: Regional modules (no national standard). Madrid 2024: detained person €120-150, expedited trial €250, ordinary proceedings €600-1,000. Payment delays of 1-3 years common in some regions.
Unpaid fee recovery: Bar Association → Administrative claim → Contentious-administrative proceedings.
