Time tracking for lawyers: a timer per case that feeds the invoice
Record time by case and task with a timer, approve the entries and turn them into an invoice. How Lexiel's time tracking works.
Hours that are not logged are not paid. At the end of the month you rebuild from memory how much time you gave each client, and the result is always less than you worked.
And when a client disputes an hourly invoice, without a record made at the time you have nothing to answer with.
How Lexiel solves it, step by step
Lexiel gives you a timer tied to the case and turns what you record into billable items.

- Open Hours. Choose the case, the task type, write a description and check the hourly rate (in the screenshot it is €150).
- Press Start timer. While you work the time runs; when you stop, it is recorded against that case.
- Mark whether it is billable. At the top you see total hours, the amount and number of entries; in the demo, 51 h 50 min, €7,687.50 and 29 entries.
- Filter by date, export to CSV, import entries or send them for approval; the pending ones appear separately.
- When they are ready, press Create invoice. In Invoices, a notice reminds you of billable hours not yet invoiced (25 h in the demo).
What it does not do
- It does not log for you: you start the timer. What it does is keep the time tied to the case and the invoice.
- Time tracking does not issue the legal invoice by itself: the invoice is created and issued from Invoices.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see hours by client?
Yes, the screen has the tabs Log, Statistics and By client.
Do unbilled hours go out of sight?
No: Invoices shows a notice with billable hours not yet invoiced, and "My day" shows unbilled hours for each case at risk.
